How long should I wear a posture corrector for?

A posture corrector is a fantastic way to train your body to understand what good posture feels like. Just pop your posture corrector on, and it will gently pull your shoulders back, preventing you from slouching.

However, to get the most out of your posture corrector, itā€™s important to use it correctly. One of the questions our customers most frequently ask us is how often they should wear their posture corrector for.

The answer isā€¦

We recommend that you wear your posture corrector for two hours a day. Thatā€™s all it takes to encourage good posture and return your muscles and spine back to their natural alignment.

It may be that when you start, you can only wear your posture corrector for half an hour at a time. Thatā€™s okay; posture correctors can take some getting used to! But as you feel more comfortable with it, you can build up to two hours of wear.

Why canā€™t I wear a posture corrector all day?

You might think that the longer you wear a posture corrector, the sooner your posture will improve.

However, it doesnā€™t quite work that way!

A posture corrector is designed as a temporary aid to help you improve your posture to the point that when you stop wearing it, youā€™ll naturally maintain good posture.

Think of your posture corrector like you would stabilizers on a childā€™s bike. Stabilizers help little ones learn how to keep their balance, but there will come a point where theyā€™ll want to take them off!

Wearing a posture corrector for too long can mean you become reliant on it. Your muscles can actually become weaker as theyā€™re used to your posture corrector doing all the hard work.

Are there any particular times I shouldnā€™t wear my posture corrector?

The great thing about a posture corrector is that you can wear it any time of the day. You can wear it while exercising, while walking, or just sitting down at your desk.

(In fact, studies have shown that taking part in posture-correcting exercises like yoga and pilates can manage pain and improve your posture too!)

The only time we recommend you donā€™t wear a posture corrector is in bed. This is because a posture corrector can restrict your movement while you sleep, meaning you wake up feeling tired and sore.

How long will it take for my posture corrector to work?

Most of our customers tell us that they see an improvement in their posture three weeks after wearing a posture corrector for two hours a day, three to four times a week.

However, it may take more or less time for you to feel a difference.
